I'm curious to what extent it was actually based on Malory, because it felt the most original— although some quick googling does bring up "the prose romances add many more details to Morholt's career; the Post-Vulgate and Malory record his adventures with the young Gawain and Ywain early in King Arthur's reign." I suppose I should read Le Morte d'Arthur at this point, but I... did not get far on my previous attempt.
