The Grossman example was the one I was thinking of; I was maybe less surprised by the "straight-up villain" take since I feel like, generally, the Lancelots in the other retellings I've read semi-recently have ranged from pompous cameos to Thomas D. Lee's Perilous Times' "deeply nihilist and a bit racist" "Portrait of a White Gay Man who aligns himself with power because it's easier than opposing it" (to quote skygiants' review, which is better than mine.) Which I don't mind, exactly, but somehow I keep forgetting that T.H. White's Lancelot is a Top Five Character of All Time of my heart??
