I haven't read the Oresteia--like you my knowledge begins and ends with that quote from the Anne Carson translation--but now I feel like I really should, because I love the myths it's based on and this production sounds like it was really great! From what I've heard (and saw in Richard III) "critiques of democracy and whatnot" has been a running theme in a lot of the plays they've put on this year, which makes sense, even if I can also see how it sometimes does get a little on-the-nose--there were certain parts of Richard III that felt that way to me. But that being said, it's better to be trying to say something than nothing at all.
