I definitely think that Troy/Alleyn is stronger once they are an established couple than when the books are still establishing them, as it were. In some ways their courtship is Peak Thirties (obviously prickliness is a prelude to love!). But once they're established there are a few books that are mainly in Troy POV (Troy: the Accidental Detective) and it's great.
