I read the free first sample chapter of it online and had an "ah ha!" moment about two pages in— apparently her mother had an unhappy experience as an adopted child, which could explain why several of her books have plots that revolve around the concept that Adoption Makes People Unhappy.
That's such a cool detail about the cornflowers! I'd be curious to see if that comes up in Elephants Can Remember, since that one talked a lot about memory (although she mostly focused on the fallibility of it.)
