I found myself thinking of— I think it was Vile Bodies by Evelyn Waugh, that ends on an unnamed European battlefield some years after the main action of the book - which is set in the 1920s - and I was, like, yeah, this checks out. We all know what came after the 1920s! So you can imagine how gobsmacked I felt to realize the book was published in 1930.
